The "War on Terror" -- A political "dirty trick"
A major goal of my campaign is to expose the main Republican tactic, the stimulation of fear and the endless “War on Terror”, as a political “dirty trick”. If the war on terrorism had anything to do with terrorism it would reduce the number of terrorists, not increase them. US policy causes terrorists and terrorism to multiply. Terrorists must be isolated and then destroyed. Gaining power through fear is the oldest political dirty trick in the book.

Endless War on Terror is a cynical strategy that:
- restores wealth and power to the Military Industrial Complex
- allows the US to grab whatever resources it wants overseas
- lets the president abuse his power, taking the power of all three branches of government unto himself
- lets government ignore citizens rights, liberty, freedom, and privacy
- Most of all, the “endless war on terror” strategy is supposed to distract us from the fact that the Republicans have no domestic program, no real help for Americans on health care, education, environmental protection, retirement security, industrial policy, or creating alternative energy sources so we can limit global warming.
The Republican administration again plans to manipulate voters through fear so they can loot our public treasury. My Republican incumbent opponent says we should plan for another 35 to 50 years of war in the Middle East. Voters won’t accept that.
Government must serve peoples needs. Please vote Chuck Ream for Congress, 7th district of Michigan, in the Democratic Primary August 8.

President Eisenhower used his farewell speech to warn America about the danger of Militarism to democracy and freedom. The victorious WWII commander of all allied forces spoke plainly…
“Until the latest of our world conflicts, the United States had no armaments industry….we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. In the councils of government we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together.”
The strategy of governing through fear usually wins - and has been known for centuries. Consider the words of Hitler’s air force commander Hermann Goering
“Naturally the common people don’t want war…but after all it is the leaders of the country who determine the policy, and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along,…the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger.”
Hermann Goering, Nazi air force commander.
Here is an imperial voice that ended a great republic thousands of years ago:
“Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind.
And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded by patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar”. – Julius Caesar
